The pressure converter allows you to convert between different units of pressure, from SI units like pascals to imperial units like pounds per square inch. This tool is useful for physics, engineering, meteorology, and many other fields where pressure measurements are needed. Pressure is the force applied perpendicular to the surface of an object per unit area.

Common Pressure Measurement Systems

Metric System (SI)

The International System of Units (SI) uses the pascal (Pa) as the standard unit of pressure.

  • Pascal (Pa): One newton per square meter (N/m²)
  • SI prefixes can be used to create multiples and submultiples: kPa, MPa, etc.
  • Bar: 100,000 pascals (commonly used in meteorology)

Imperial/US Customary System

Used primarily in the United States and a few other countries.

  • Pound per square inch (psi): The primary unit in US/imperial systems
  • Pound per square foot (psf): Often used in engineering applications

Atmospheric and Weather Units

Common units for atmospheric pressure measurements.

  • Standard atmosphere (atm): Approximately the average atmospheric pressure at sea level
  • Millibar/Hectopascal (mbar/hPa): Common in meteorology (1 mbar = 100 Pa)
  • Torr: Approximately equal to 1 mmHg (millimeter of mercury)

Fluid Column Height Units

Based on the pressure exerted by a column of fluid.

  • Millimeter of mercury (mmHg): Pressure exerted by 1 mm of mercury
  • Inch of mercury (inHg): Pressure exerted by 1 inch of mercury
  • Millimeter/Centimeter of water: Pressure exerted by a water column
